Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen announced Tuesday that two toll-free numbers are available for questions about faulty mortgage documents or field services provided by Lender Processing Services Inc. and its subsidiaries.
Under the terms of a $120 million multi-state agreement, Lender Processing Services Inc., LPS Default Solutions and DocX agreed to establish and maintain the dedicated phone lines, review documents executed between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010, to determine if any needed to be corrected or re-executed, and make other changes to the way they did business.
“The settlement imposed important reforms against robo-signing practices by the company,” Jepsen said. “It also provided recourse for consumers who believe they may have been affected by the company’s past practices.”
LPS and its subsidiaries allegedly executed thousands of potentially affected documents recorded or filed in Connecticut. The documents may have contained defects such as improper notarizations, unauthorized signatures and inaccurate information related to the effective date of assignment or the identity of the signatory.
Consumers can call one number with concerns or complaints related to the LPS’ remediation and execution of mortgage related documents and the other for issues related to LPS’ field service activities, including property preservation, inspection, winterization and maintenance.
Connecticut was one of the lead states to look into and negotiate the settlement, which included the District of Columbia and 45 states. Connecticut received approximately $1.9 million as part of the agreement.
